This is the day to especially remember our country, the long period of blessing that the Lord has provided for her, and those who went before us to, sometimes sacrificially, defend this nation and secure those blessings.

This morning, Job chapters 29 and 30
Job 291 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
7 When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
9 The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

Friday, I guess. What with me being off work all this week, I've rather lost track of things. Dear Wife had to be at work at 05:00 this morning, so when the alarm went off, I got up too. Made coffee, fed cats (anyone want to adopt some cats? PLEASE??!?). Helped her find her ''stuff''. Saw her off. Then it was time for Beloved Younger Daughter. B.Y.D. stayed the night with friends, but had to be at a medical clinic at 07:00, and I had to drive her there. Then spend some time doing things around the house that I had planned for Monday-Tuesday. heh-heh.
Tomorrow is Independence Day in the US. Hope everyone celebrates it appropriately.,
This morning we continue in Job with chapters 26, 27, and 28. ''Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do the wicked flourish while the 'good' (meaning, generally, us) suffer? Where is God in all of this? How could He allow this to happen? WHY??? We know He could fix this, why doesn't He??
There may be some who have never ''been there''. But I have, and know I'm not alone in that: the record of Job proves that, at least. I don't have an answer, not a completely satisfactory one. I do know a few things. He knows, He cares. It has not escaped His attention. There is more to it than we see or can see. We have to trust Him, trust His heart. Not always easy. But as Job said earlier, ''.. though He slay me, still will I trust Him. '' And sometimes that is all we can do.
Job 261 But Job answered and said,
2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

Job 231 Then Job answered and said,
2 Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
7 There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

A bit awry this day. I pre-wrote some of the day's thoughts late last night and THOUGHT they were saved to be called up, suspecting that the morning might be a bit rushed. It was, but they had all gone into The Great Beyond, never to be seen again. Perhaps they weren't as worthy as I had imagined and the Lord was just keeping me from looking more foolish than usual. Ah well.
At any rate, this will be greatly abbreviated.

Most of us do not realize how truly revolutionary a change this passage records.
Acts 10:1-231 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
Good Last Day of the First Half of The Year to you. Approximately, at least. This has been 'interesting' so far. The second half may be even more so.
This morning's passage is chapters 19 and 2o of Job. When I was younger, Job did not make much sense to me. Why make a record of pain, misery, death, and endless chatter? Why indeed? What I did not know then, and have come to find out, is that pain and misery and death are part of the human experience. They can drag us down into hopelessness all too easily. Yet, despite everything, Job never lets go of God. Never. Cries to Him, speaks of Him, refers to Him, constantly. Admits he doesn't understand Him. Feel familiar? Yet there is that great phrase, '' though He slay me, still will I trust Him''. (chapter 13, verse 15).
So, we have here a few more of my favorite verses in the Bible, verses 25-27 ''For I know that my Redeemer liveth!''. Might make good text for a song, don't you agree?
Job 191 Then Job answered and said,
2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
Good Monday morning to you. Hope you're having a good morning. This is going out a bit later in the day than usual. I'm off work all this week: the fall-off in the economy and the automotive sector in particular, has the plants down for the week. I'm grateful even at that. We know, don't we, of auto plants that are going down until August, and others that are closing forever. Having ''been there'' for more of such than I want to dwell on, I can live with a week down, particularly when I can charge some of that to the vacation account and have at least a bit coming in. Things aren't great, but they're tolerable and we have been through MUCH worse. The Lord sees to us, for some reason. Thanks.
This morning we're in Job, chapters 16, 17, and 18. Now there was a guy who went through it! If you are ever tempted, as I am, to pout and fuss about what we are going through, look back on Job. Lost his kids, lost his wealth, lost his health, lost the support of his wife, felt that the Lord was against him, and now his ''friends'' come by to make things worse. Sometimes help ain't help, as they used to say. But he hung on, and sometimes that's all we need to do. Sometimes, that's all we can do, and the Lord knows it. Don't forget that part. He sees and He knows. Trust Him.
Job 161 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?
22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
Good Sunday morning to all. We all have much to be thankful for, this or any other day. There have been times in my life, and certainly over the last few years, when the worries and fears of the day crowd out the sense of wonderment and gratitude that are the proper reactions to what the Lord has done for me and mine. That is my fault and no one else's. Time to spend some effort and some time with Him getting back on track. He deserves no less, and it does me good as well. We are greatly blessed, often in part by the efforts of those whose names we do not even know.
This morning's passage is chapters 13, 14, and 15 of Job. Our friend Job is still wrestling with his situation and with that most difficult question, ''WHY??''. Who among us has never asked that question of the Lord?
Job 131 Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
2 What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
5 O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6 Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7 Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
8 Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?
9 Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?
10 He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
11 Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
12 Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

This morning's reading is chapters 10, 11, and 12 of Job. Ever have the roof fall in and you don't understand why? Probably you have. You are not the first, and won't be the last: you are in good company. The 'WHY' of life, actually the multiple, are part of the human condition. Job found out. So do the rest of us, but we usually don't handle it even as well as he did. I will say this: it is a terrible feeling when you believe that even the Lord has abandoned you. He hasn't, if you are one of His, I can testify to that. But there are times you can't sense His presence and it's an awful feeling.
Job 101 My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2 I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.
3 Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
4 Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
5 Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man's days,
6 That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
7 Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.
8 Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
9 Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
10 Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?

Happy Friday, as we say. Leaving the house soon, a bit later than on other days when I am at work by around 05:45. Friday is a 'non-production' day, so I run Dear Younger Daughter to work (she does not drive), then I go on in, catch up on paperwork and such, and leave noonish. Mood may be a bit odd: plant is shut down all of next week, and they've been having RIF's this week.\
And my mood may be off as well. We got word last night that son-in-law was let go where he's been working the last two years as the trucking business continues to be in trouble. He and daughter just bought a house 2 months ago, and while they didn't go for one of the 'McMansions', I doubt they can carry the note on her income alone. So things may be difficult to say the least.
This morning's reading is chapters 7, 8, and 9 in Job. So much of this book just echoes some of what many of us have or are going through. The struggles and the ''why???'' are things that a lot of us know all too well. It's not a new thing. Has any one of us not struggled with the ''WHY?'' questions? Has any of us not known disappointment, calamity, death? And yet, we have hope. I believe that this account is in the Bible for a reason. It says a lot.
Job 71 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?
2 As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:
3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4 When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.
5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.
6 My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.
7 O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
8 The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.
9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

Posting heren has been a bit awkward over the last few days. We are shaking out some bugs and, with me being off work next week (or such is the plan) as my employer is shutting down for a week, I hope to be able to address some of the issues. Apologies for the problems. We are not quite up to full speed but we are closer, definitely.
This morning we are in the book of Job, chapters 4, 5, 6. This is a book that resonates with a surprising number of people. Who of us have not experience sudden and -- in our perspective -- undeserved problems, even disasters? I have, and so have others. And not just those matters that are part of the human condition, or entropy, or whatever. So Job's problems resonate with us. Or almost. Job is described as a righteous man. In my own strength, I don't make that standard.
I've been thinking of Job this week at work. They've been ''downsizing'' at the customer plant where I do most of my work, and some very good people have been shoved out the door, some of them better people than the people remaining on staff. It isn't always fair.
Job 41 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

26 Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?
27 Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.
28 Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
29 Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.
30 Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
Acts 7:20-4320 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:
21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.
22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:
25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.
26 And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?
28 Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?
29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.
30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.
31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him,
32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.
33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.
35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.
36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
