Unseasonably warm here, for this area anyway.  Dear Wife is over next door "watching" the Great-Niece.  I'm doing a pile of laundry and trying to do some reading.

The Old Testament reading is chapters 50, 51, and 52 of the book of Isaiah

Isaiah 50

1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. 2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Isaiah 51

Isaiah 52

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Wednesday, 12 October 2016

A briefly warmer day today.  High temp in the mid-70's.  Tomorrow's high in the low 50's.  With rain.  A relatively quiet day. 

In our weekly cycle, Wednesday is the day I collect all the trash, put it in the can, and haul the can to the curb for Thursday morning pickup.  So one bag of kitchen trash (and we don't have a garbage disposal, to it's all week's worth), one little bag from the bathroom, one small bag from the living room, one grocery bag (doubled) for the day's kitty litter scoopings.  We have an arrangement with next-door niece -- both of us toss large cardboard boxes on a "burn pile" for a once-a-week fire.  We're not into pre-packaged food much, and the occasional empty bag of flour, butter wrapper, etc. doesn't create much volume.  We rarely use soda, and the occasional can of ginger ale is collected when empty, and niece's husband collects them and recycles them. 

Tomorrow, Dear Wife has the Little One all day, with her going across the yard around 06:45 or so.  Implying an alarm going off around 05:30.  So we will head off the the Land of Nod soon.

Isaiah 49

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Tuesday, 11 October 2016

Monday, I woke to a temperature of 35 degrees.  This morning, it was "up" to 37.  So no snow, yet, but it will be coming all too soon.  I hate cold and snow.  Hate it.

Wife is semi-passed out on recliner.  She had about  2 hours sleep last night.  I did not get that much.  We just ate half an hour ago, the first I'd eaten since two warmed up leftover biscuits around 0730 this morning.  We are crashing soon.  I hope.

Today, she had the Little One.  And today, being Tuesday, was the day for "story time" at the library. Except that today, as a special event, the gathering was at the local fire station.  Lets the kids see the firefighters in their gear, see the trucks, hear the sirens, and all that. Then we swung by the library to drop of the videos she'd gotten last week, and so that I could return a few books that I'd had out.  The niece and her husband got home from work within a few minutes of each other, both of them around 6:25 p.m, after being at work since around 0700 this morning.  They're tired, so are we.

Isaiah 46

1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. 2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity. 3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: 4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. 5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like? 6 They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. 7 They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. 8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. 12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Isaiah 47

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Monday, 10 October 2016

In some areas, and this used to be one, today is the annual celebration termed "Columbus Day", in honor of the first known European discoverer of the Americas.  In some places, those over run with the P.C. / Social Justice buffoons, it's either ignored or renamed.  But here, public offices, libraries, schools, banks, even my doctor's office, are closed. 

We woke, rather later than planned, to 36 degrees outside.  Yuck!!  Yet, later in the week, and most of next week, we are foreseeing temperatures in the mid-70's, far more to my liking.


Wife had another rough night.  Doesn't help that the fleecy 'throw" that she puts over herself when on the recliner is now showing signs of "cat doo" on it.  So I'll toss it in the washer.  Again.  Just washed it Friday.  Going to wear it out at this rate.  Color me "not happy".

Our reading from the Old Testament today is chapters 43 and 44 of the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 43

Isaiah 44

Just a brief note today.
I am not a big proponent of working on Sunday.  But parts of her family decided that today would be a good day to paint the exterior of our hovel.  Clearly hadn't been done in quite a long time.  I pulled into drive after leaving church to find a small army (ok, a platoon) on ladders, waving paint brushes and rollers and sprayers.  And I received orders from Dear Wife to assist.  Not being totally stupid (quite), I did.  We just finished.  I am sucking down some warmed-up leftover chowder from the other night, looking at paint-spattered clothing, and feeling weary.
I had planned to attend the Sunday evening services, something I rarely do, but inasmuch as that gathering is breaking up right now, that's not going to happen. 
Another weekend, another day, gone.

Isaiah 42

Isaiah 39

1 At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered. 2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. 3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? Isaiah 40

1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 6 The voice said, Cry. Today's Readings and Stuff -- Friday, 07 October 2016

Not much of a day here.  Wife is in great pain, and there is very little that I can do to fix that.  Her surgery was more than a year ago, and it seems likely that some substantial nerve damage was done.  And I am not certain that the bones and tendons are knitting, not at all,  The swelling is constant.  And, to make things worse, she's been battling pleurisy for the better part of two weeks, and a constant low-level fever.  She's scheduled for a Humira injection Monday, but I think we will take a week off that regimen in order to let her body's immune system deal with whatever is attacking her.

So I've been a caregiver today, and really all week.  Longer, actually.

Isaiah 37

So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down. 9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness: 10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me. 15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O LORD, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
