Trying something new.
Earlier today, I had composed a lengthy posting. ONE wrong use of keyboard, and it vanished,
all of it. Attempt to resurrect the supposed
backup was to no avail. Irritated, I
walked away and left it until now.
I did wish to emphasize that all of these verses are
extremely important (not that Scripture has anything trivial) and as such I am
hesitant to emphasize or wax “eloquent” over any. All of these verses deserve careful,
prayerful, intense attention. PLEASE don’t
float over any of it.
Genesis 15
1After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go
childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given
no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This
shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels
shall be thine heir.
5And he brought him forth abroad, and said,
Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and
he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for
righteousness.
7And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of
the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of
three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years
old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10And he took unto him all these, and divided
them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds
divided he not.
11And when the fowls came down upon the
carcases, Abram drove them away.
12And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep
fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that
thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve
them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14And also that nation, whom they shall serve,
will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace;
thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16But in the fourth generation they shall come
hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17And it came to pass, that, when the sun went
down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed
between those pieces.
18In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram,
saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the
great river, the river Euphrates:
19The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the
Kadmonites,
20And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the
Rephaims,
21And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the
Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
Genesis 16
1Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children:
and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
2And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now,
the Lord hath restrained
me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain
children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the
Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her
to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived:
and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
5And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon
thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had
conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge
between me and thee.
6But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is
in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with
her, she fled from her face.
7And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of
water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
8And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence
camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my
mistress Sarai.
9And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy
mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
10And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply
thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
11And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou
art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because
the Lord hath heard thy
affliction.
12And he will be a wild man; his hand will be
against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the
presence of all his brethren.
13And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God
seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
14Wherefore the well was called Beer–lahai–roi;
behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called
his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
16And Abram was fourscore and six years old,
when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
Psalm 6
To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of
David.
1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger,
neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy upon me,
O Lord; for I am weak:
O Lord, heal me; for my bones
are vexed.
3 My soul is also sore
vexed: but thou, O Lord, how
long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for
thy mercies' sake.
5 For in death there
is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6 I am weary with my
groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is consumed
because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
8 Depart from me, all
ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath
heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The Lord hath heard my supplication;
the Lord will receive my
prayer.
10 Let all mine
enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

Gospel of Matthew --- Chapter 6
1 Take heed that
ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward
of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when
thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do
in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I
say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou
doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms
may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward
thee openly.
5 And when thou
prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be
seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when
thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to
thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall
reward thee openly.
7 But when ye
pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they
shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye
therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of,
before ye ask him.
9 After this
manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom
come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this
day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and
the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye
forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
trespasses.
16 Moreover when
ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure
their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They
have their reward.
17 But thou, when
thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou
appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy
Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 Lay not up for
yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of
the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be
full of light.
23 But if thine
eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light
that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can
serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else
he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I
say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye
shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more
than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the
fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into
barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you
by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take
ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they
toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say
unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if
God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast
into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take
no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal
shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all
these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye
have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye
first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be
added unto you.
34 Take therefore
no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of
itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
