Today's stuff -- Thursday, 09 July 2020

This will be abbreviated out of necessity.

I hate to make a public thing out of our situations, but sometimes it's worth letting folks know.  Skip this if it's too much, ok?

We spent yesterday bracing up the floor joists in the affected room, and getting down a layer of OSB over that.  Makes it lots easier to walk if you're not stepping from one bare joist to the next.  Most of that is done, except for the area immediately adjacent to the wall between that room and the living room.

Plan was, repeat, was, to begin the day breaking down that wall.  The damage from that water heater had extended under that wall about two feet into the living room, so addressing that necessitates the walls removal.  Not so bad: that makes that whole space much more useful  anyway so it's a plus.

Except.  ..  we got message this morning that B-in-law had a  thing come up and wouldn't be here until noon.  OK.  But I'd been up since dawn dragging all the stuff, like the desktop computer, TV, etc. etc.,  out of the way, stuffing things wherever I could (including on our bed) and in already full closets, etc.  Had to it then, as Wife had a 10:00 doctor appointment, so time was limited before departure time.

Only ..... a truck hit power lines right in front of the medical complex, access isn't possible, so hers was one of many they were/scrambling to reschedule.

OK.  Time for coffee.  Then Jim messaged that he wouldn't be coming today.  So the place is in disarray, we're both tired already (she's napping).  And the day is shot.

One other by-product of this is that the desktop computer is in sections. In closets, under bed, etc.  That means I'm doing this on a phone, and can not do my usual cut & paste of the day's Scripture passages.  Apologies.  Hope to be in better shape in a few days.

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Tuesday, 07 July 2020

Apologies and all of that.  Been a wild week or two.
As some know, we'd discovered some potentially very serious structural issues in our hovel.  We'd used most of that "stimulus" money to purchase what we thought was sufficient materials to make needed repairs.  We thought.  Well .....  The plan was that brother-in-law and a fellow who they allow to live in their house, would come over and, with the vastly superior knowledge and ability, lead the effort (with me as a "fetch & carry" unskilled peon.  Promise was that he'd come over after work last Thursday to scope out the matter, then come over on Saturday and lead the effort until it was done.  Well .....
The root issue seemed to be a leaking hot water tank that had hidden itself in a closet in a room we use as "dead storage' and nothing more.  OK.  Except that the extent of the damage had hidden itself under the piles of "stuff".   Turns out that the damage was FAR more extensive than we had known.  Far, far worse.  The "quick fix" turned into a catastrophe.  Horrible extensive damage was found.  The expected start date turned into yesterday morning.  And changed direction.  We spent all day yesterday clearing that room, with lots and lots of stuff, including some furniture, either going into trash cans, or onto a "burn pit" out back.  That revealed totally trashed flooring.  So we spent all day today pulling up carpet, padding etc., and then pulling out every bit of the sub-flooring.  ALL of it.  Lots of black mold found.  The carpet, etc. is burned.  The wood framing below has been washed down with white vinegar, etc.  Lord willing, tomorrow we'll start to put down sub-flooring.  We hope that we have enough of it.  So my attentions have been in disarray.  Sorry.

Oh, and in the middle of this, I have to run Wife to a previously scheduled doctor visit on Thursday.  Just another issue.

2nd Chronicles 3

1Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

2And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.

3Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.

4And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

5And the greater house he ceiled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains.

6And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.

7He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.

8And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.

9And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.

10And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.

11And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.

12And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub.

13The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.

14And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims thereon.

15Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

16And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.

17And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

1Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.

2Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

3And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.

4It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.

5And the thickness of it was an handbreadth, and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.

6He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.

7And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

8He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basins of gold.

9Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.

13And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths; two rows of pomegranates on each wreath, to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were upon the pillars.

14He made also bases, and lavers made he upon the bases;

15One sea, and twelve oxen under it.

16The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the Lord of bright brass.

17In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah.

18Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.

19And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set;

20Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the oracle, of pure gold;

21And the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, made he of gold, and that perfect gold;

22And the snuffers, and the basins, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Friday, 03 July 2020

A warm day by local standards.  Having lived in areas where today's high would be 10° or more higher, I don't react quite the same way.  Quite.  But it's better than the sub-zero temps that we've had to endure not that many years ago, and may again this winter.  I'll take it.
Walking around with a sense of foreboding. Some of that is a result of my own sometimes gloomy nature (genetic, I'm sure).  Some of it is a result of my analytical mind-set as I regard the world around us.  Things are not looking good. Wife is pleading with me to avoid public comments on some of the issues and personalities of the day, fearing that we may well have some of these people in our own face at close range, with evil intent.  And soon too.  She may be right.  I know that the Lord is not blind to what is going on, and that He knew it before the world was made.  He's at work in all of this, but the way may be bumpy.  As it is in many places around the world today.

1Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
