Today's Readings and Stuff -- Saturday, 11 September 2021

This has been quite a week, and it's not over yet.  

It began -- in some respects -- around Tuesday.  Dear Wife was feeling lousy, more so than "usual" if you can imagine it.  Being between doctors, due to some dreadful ineptitude - at best -- on the part of the medical insurance agent, we couldn't even call the HMO that's been our refuge for a number of years and we can't get into the putative new doctor for another few weeks.  Not good.  So we called the "Urgent Care" joint attached to the new plan.  Only to be informed that they're swamped, and best bet is to come in on the morning opening at 09:00.  

Which we did.  To find the lot full and the inside as well, making everyone sit out in their cars until called.  So we paid the co-pay and waited.  Eventually she was called.  Upshot was that after a wait of three hours, we were sent to the nearest Emergency Room.  Another co-pay, and SIX HOURS in the rooms.  More tests, of course, and a CAT scan, etc. etc.  No food all day and neither of us had taken our "morning meds", so we mad sandwiches and took pills, waited a while, took "night meds" and turned in.  Some fun, huh?

The following day, Thursday, was simply a "recovery day".

Friday -- yesterday -- was our 33rd wedding anniversary.  We're glad and grateful for it, but all the issues made it somewhat of a less-than-festive day.  But we've maintained the belief that we've been blessed, as indeed we have.

Taking us to today, the 20th anniversary of the attack on America by  the Muslim heathens.  The proximity of those two days has always struck us oddly.  We remember that day.

II Corinthians 3

Today's Readings and Stuff -- Tuesday, 07 September 2021

 This has been a difficult few weeks.  Wife has been ill, more than the "usual", and with us embroiled in a weird and difficult transition between doctors and insurance coverages, etc., we don't even have a good option for her care.  Her "new" doctor has agreed to an appointment, but it's several weeks hence, so we're hoping and praying for non-doctor-centered healing.  But we shall see.

And last night was one of my fitful not-quite-asleep modes.  I get them from time to time.  I am a pretty good data analyst and a general situation one.  NOT a prophet or anything like that, but a reasonably good observer and analyst.  OK?  I've been watching the events and changes in this world, and what's coming clearer is not reassuring.  I have no idea whether or not we are in the Last Days of this world, but I believe that the civilizations we regard as The World are collapsing.  As someone once noted, the collapse is small and minor.  And then all at once.  Whether I will live to see the worst of it I don't know.  But our children and, particularly our grand-children, will.  Where the Big Break will occur is not clear:  there are many flashpoint areas.  The links between, say, the Taliban and Communist China are troubling.  The extension of China's "Belt and Road" strategies, which might well involve regions from Indonesia to Turkey and beyond.  With China's openly visible intent to assail Taiwan as part of it.  And the Europeans will offer no resistance.  A study, even a cursory one, of the history of this world, records the collapse of civilizations.  Seen any Olmecs in Mexico lately?  Wiped out.  Know the history of the Medes, the Persians, a whole bunch of dynasties in China, dynastic Egypt, the Celts, the Gaels, numerous dynasties in Japan, and many more?  Yes, it can happen again, and I believe that it will.  Soon.  This very day, "courtesy" of too many, Christians are being rounded up in Afghanistan, slaughtered like an exterminator would slay termites, though their daughters (and some boys) are being gang-raped.  While our "elites" focus their attention on things like how offensive capital letters are, or the offensiveness of using the "wrong" pronouns. or subject-verb agreement in college papers, or just being the "wrong" sex or color or whatever.  Out of this collapse of the culture comes the weakness and inevitable collapse of the civilization.  Which is now tottering.  When it falls I can not say.  But it will.  Out of this does not come sound sleep.

Song of the day fits in:  "All I Once Held Dear" which was in mind All Night Long and still today.

Note the words.  "all I once held dear, built my life upon" jumps out and hits me squarely.  Have I, do I, focus fully and intentionally upon the Lord, or upon my lusts and wants and whims?  The collapse of our culture is as fully my fault as anyone's, and that weighs heavily.

O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
