A Sunday Punch

Our little church experienced another loss today. One of our members, a man who was present at the singing convention last night, wasn't feeling well this morning and decided to just come later for the worship service, sending wife and son off to Sunday school. We spent part of of our informal time talking about plans for the son's upcoming graduation and future plans, but dad never showed for the worship service. She went home right after the last Amen, and found her husband of 30 odd years lying cold and unresponsive and the paramedics were simply too late by far to do anything but call the coroner and the sheriff. The family, the pastor, the deacons, and we descended upon the house to pray with the family and to just be there.
This is two sudden deaths in a period of only a month in our little congregation, and for our new and very young pastor. I believe that the Lord turns bad situations into good, but this is hard for all. Dwight and Deb have two children. Their daughter is six months' pregnant with a child who will never know his grandfather - I know how that will feel. And their son is still a high school senior. The next hours, days, weeks, months will be hard for all of them and for us. The Lord is still driving this bus, but the road is bumpy in places.
