Quote of the Day

"In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress."

  1. Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson said, "It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress".

If pro is the opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?

  2. Most of us sense that many government jobs exist to provide a paycheck for the otherwise unemployable relatives and cronies of the politically powerful. We don't like it, but we see it, and it may just come with the territory. But we also see the difference in damage that a person runnng a street sweeper - somethng that probably needs to be done - and someone making public policy can do. Unfortunately, not only does Pournelle's Iron Rules of Bureaucracy hold, so does the Peter Principle.
But also remember this: they did not elect themselves. We, the citizens as a group, did. Much of the blame is visible in the mirror.
