As mentioned in an early afternoon update, my sister-in-law was rushed to the hospital in the early hours (I guess) of yesterday morning. We didn't get the Word until nearly noon. Wife and niece, sis-in-law's daughter, went to hospital to "sit"with her. She went in for emergency hysterectomy in late afternoon. VERY tense situation and likely to remain so. They later determined that the BIG surgery can not be done until her blood levels come up, she'd lost quite a lot of blood. Did a D&C. Gave her transfusions and sent her home until, supposedly, things level out. Gonna be tense.
And, as ever, the stress brought some of the intra-family tensions and issues to the fore. These things don't always bring out the best in people (and sometimes the best is none too good, unfortunately) and things get said that will be a problem, sometimes for decades after the fact. Wish it were not so. But it is.
So they didn't get home until around 10:00 p.m. We heated up leftovers and ate. First I'd eaten since a piece of toast around 10:00. Cats made a big fuss. And it was SNOWING, that hideous evil stuff. The first day of Spring is only about 10 days off, our friends in central Alabama saw 80° today. We have snow. Yuck!
Been trying to do some work around the place and TO the place as well. Our place isn't in great shape, so we're addressing issues as time, skill, and money allows. I managed a few things yesterday and plan for a few today. Hope to be able to get to some next week, again as circumstances permit.
a nominee for song of the day -- "There Is A Fountain".
Our passage in the Old Testament for the day is chapters 11, 12, and 13 of Deuteronomy.
Pay some attention to chapter 13. I've seen all too often one of those self-proclaimed "prophets" or "prophetess" types, and a church-type organization that loudly proclaims "new revelation" that directly contradicts the Bible. Examples are not hard to find, are they? I have a real problem with that. Somehow, I don't think that the Lord had second thoughts on some essentials, or that He changes. But such things are warned of here. As we know, it didn't take all that long for the warnings to be ignored. Not long before the people thought it was OK to attend some sort of Jewish ritual in the morning, and then bow to Ba'al or Asherah or Molech the Very Same Day!! Didn't turn out well, did it? And the same is done in our time, in our country. I know, personally, some people who want to regard the Lord, the True God, and the Moslem god (small "g", please note) as being just different faces of the same deity, and are into "pulpit sharing" efforts with Moslem imams. I don't think that the Lord is honored in this, or that He likes it. That should count for something. I recently stated that in a social network venue, and got called quite a lot of quite nasty things as a result, "discrimination" being just one of them, though repeated several times.
Our New Testament passage is verses 1-13 of Mark chapter 13. Jesus is warning of some heavy duty trouble coming. And it did and is and it will, right up to the End.
