Weird day and not over yet, and we're pushing 10 p.m.
Getting ready for church this morning, and Wife informed me that we had a suddenly-announced Family Obligation that we simply must attend. First that I'd heard of it, of course.
So, that affected what I'd planned for the day, a day of rest. Didn't really happen, but see below.
So I attended Bible study and worship service, wishing that I'd taken better notes throughout.
Came home and got some stuff together, and headed out on the 16 mile trip to the park pavilion someone had arranged. And noticed, while 3./4 of the way, that the temperature gauge on the vehicle was getting an eyelash distance from the HOT! mark. NOT what I need right now, to be sure. But it is what it is. We got there and went through all the "stuff" involved, heard the 3rd or 4th recount of some ancient scandals, the usual. Finally managed to break away, and headed home. I'd checked the coolant level before leaving and it looked acceptable, so what is going on. Got on the "limited access highway" finally, with temp gauge OK., Then, suddenly, it began to climb. Got not quite as close to HOT as before, but close. And then, about a mile or two from home, began to drop, and ended in "normal" territory. Sounds like a thermostat going bad, not a water pump, but we shall see. Just another day in happy land.
Came home and we collapsed, and after a little while, we decided to take a quick nap. That was around 5 p.m. I woke up at around 6. Wife is still horizontal and Out Of It. Probably needs the sleep. So I did that dishes, the stuff left over from her preps for this Great Event. And sat down at the desk, like this. This is a day of rest? But she's getting some sleep, and she hardly slept Saturday night, so this goes under the heading of makeup. I guess.
Cats aren't sure what to make of it all, they don't handle change well. And our neighbors on all sides are having some "free enterprise" fireworks discharges, mostly loud ones. She's sleeping through it, but the cats are all upset, and probably some neighbor dogs are as well. Part of the celebration of Independence Day. Every year.
So wise profound statements and thought are in short stock today. Sorry.
Our day's reading in the Old Testament is chapters 23, 24, and 25 of Job.
Bildad's question in chapter 25 is a fair one. An excellent one, in fact. How can a man be justified before God? Not by his own power and virtue, that is certain.
Our reading in the New Testament is verses 24-48 in chapter 10 of the Acts of the Apostles.
This is where we really begin to see Gentiles as Christian believers. Many of us don't know a single person of even slight Jewish family connection in the Christian church. But at the time of the Acts, up to this point, it was assumed that Jesus came for the Jews, only. All the original apostles were Jewish, all the leaders up to this point as well. And all the believers. Now? Quite a change, and quite evidently the Lord was pushing for the outreach. These days, we really don't comprehend what a major change that was.
